Once again, this week's Dye-a-logue was more for our Eastgate members...but I figured I'd post it here anyway, just in case it can help someone.
VBS this year is going to be slightly different than what it has been in the past...and by “slightly,” I mean significantly.
First, we’re going to have another planning meeting this Sunday, May 26, following our evening service (and before card signing). At that meeting, we will need some volunteers to do some very important things during our VBS.
We need four teachers (or teams of teachers) to teach lessons to four different age groups.
We need one/two people to coordinate the program for the parents.
We need someone to coordinate the craft time.
We need two separate people (or two teams) to plan two separate Bible activity time (formerly referred to as “games”). The details of what this involves will be given at the meeting on Sunday.
The dates are July 20-21. Yes, I know that is only two days. Yes, I know that is a Saturday and a Sunday...I told you this year would be “slightly” different.
This year our theme is “Fiesta!” A “Fiesta!” is a party and a party is a celebration. So we’re going to look at four celebration stories from the Bible this year.
For the benefit of those who might want to teach, the “Party Stories” are Passover (Israel’s deliverance from Egypt), Purim (Esther saves the Jews - one person CAN make a difference), Parables (Luke 15), and Perfection (a glimpse of Heaven).
The hope is that the “small” changes will allow more people to assist with VBS...especially since it will not require a 5 night commitment.
We also hope that we’ll be able to reach more children by having it on the weekend.
If you’re interested in helping, come to the meeting on Sunday night. If you have questions, they’ll probably be answered at the meeting…but if you can’t wait, you can ask me.
I hope you’re as excited as I am about VBS!
